The theme of the newsletter is “Hail and Farewell”.  The “Hail” is for you, the great Knights of our spectacular Holy Cross Council.  But it’s a bittersweet “Farewell”.

As to the “Sweet”, that credit has to go to YOU.  Together, in my opinion and that of Supreme, we had an extremely successful year.  Your Council supported numerous worthwhile charities, raised in excess of two tons of food for the needy in our community, met our membership goals which earned the Council the “Gold Star Award”.  For these and all your other fine efforts, I salute each and every one of you. Thank you! You are truly great men that make up the Knights of Holy Cross Council 7904 and make our Council a great Council.  These things can’t be just one man or one group of men, it takes everyone pulling together to get the job done.  I know all of you will throw your support behind our incoming Grand Knight, Marcus Ray, and give him the same support and loyalty you have always given to the Grand Knights in the past.

As for the bitter side, “Farewell”. I know that there are some members of our Council who have been very critical of my efforts as Grand Knight.  They reminded me of a guy I golfed with recently.  He spent all 18 holes (nearly 4 hours) complaining. First there was too much water on the course. Then he complained about the lack of grass on the course. When I pointed out his inconsistency, “You can’t have it both ways. You need water to grow grass”.

My mission has always been to serve the Order and follow the by-laws as set forth by Supreme, the State Council and Holy Cross Council. In that effort, I thank you all who have supported that mission.  I THANK YOU for your trust and support.  It has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve you as you Grand Knight.  Working together, in brotherhood and unity, we can accomplish anything.

Vivat Jesus!

Gerald A. (Jerry) Walsh, GK
